US Trade Negotiations Representative Katherine Tai and India's Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal directed to resolve the dispute over agricultural supplies with the World Trade Organization (WTO) as soon as possible, reads s statement from Tai’s office.

The letter states that in June the US and India "announced the resolution of key trade issues, including the termination of six WTO disputes and India's removal of duties on certain US goods." The statement claims that Tai and Goyal "discussed the seventh remaining WTO dispute" involving agricultural supplies. According to Tai's office, "They instructed aides to continue discussions on this dispute in order to find a resolution quickly."

The aforementioned dispute between the two nations stems from India's prohibition on specific agricultural product categories because of worries about the spread of avian flu.
