Bitchat operates without the need for the Internet, central servers, phone numbers, or email. Dorsey noted on X that this is his individual experiment.

The messenger enables encryption and facilitates message transmission between nearby devices that create Bluetooth clusters, allowing communication without the need for a mobile or Wi-Fi connection. Simultaneously, certain devices function as ‘bridges’ that link clusters together, enhancing coverage.

Messages are kept solely on the device and do not access the centralized system.

The application allows for group conversations, or ‘rooms,’ that can be designated with hashtags and secured with passwords, in addition to enabling message delivery to users who are currently offline.

In the future, Bitchat intends to incorporate support for Wi-Fi Direct technology, enhancing speed and coverage by enabling direct connections between devices through Wi-Fi.

Creating accounts in the messenger is unnecessary, and it does not gather any information.
