"The main task is to completely eliminate risk points and break the chain of transmission in order to stop the spread of the epidemic as soon as possible," said Wu Qianyu, an inspector at the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission.

At the same time, residents will have to be tested for COVID-19 twice: after self-diagnosing with antibody tests, mandatory PCR testing will be conducted citywide on Monday, the agency wrote.

Amid new outbreaks of infection and due to China's current "zero tolerance" policy for COVID-19, a lockdown has been imposed in Shanghai, which has significantly disrupted the daily lives of city residents and businesses, Reuters notes. There are about 90 container ships and oil tankers queued up at the mouth of the Yangtze River, which can't unload in Shanghai due to the covid restrictions, follows from Refinitiv data.
