US Microsoft Corp. has proposed to sell the Office software suite in the European Economic Area (EEA) at a lower price without the Teams messenger to address the European Commission's antitrust issues, stated the EC.

The firm is open to granting rivals access to specific capabilities of several of its products and services, promoting “effective interoperability” with their solutions.

The EC plans to examine the views of Microsoft's rivals and clients, and then it will determine if it will accept the company's concessions.

In 2020, the European Commission launched an investigation into Microsoft following a complaint from Slack, currently owned by Salesforce Inc.

The regulator is worried that the software behemoth has linked Teams to its main office applications since at least April 2019, reducing competition in the information sharing and collaboration solutions market and helping it maintain its status in the office software sector.

Nanna-Louise Linde, Microsoft's vice president for European government relations, stated in a blog post that the concessions suggested by the company would entirely address competitors' worries while also increasing options for Europeans.
