According to a shared press release from the companies, Transport for London (TfL) has granted licenses for multiple Wayve autonomous vehicles to function."Wayve cars are engineered for autonomy and will maneuver through traffic," the firm stated. "A licensed driver from TfL, who has undergone special training, will be present to oversee the trip and offer help or take charge when necessary."
The companies observed significant demand from London residents for ordering Wayve self-driving cars via Uber. In the last eight weeks, over 100,000 users have registered for a "wishlist." Some will gain access to the robotaxis later this summer.
The previous week, Baidu of China declared that it had started trial runs for robotaxi services in London alongside the Freenow service from Uber competitor Lyft Inc.
