Eni stated that the contract area is situated within the Sirte basin and spans roughly 29,000 square kilometers. The company also mentioned that the block includes several confirmed hydrocarbon deposits, some of which are not yet developed.

Under the terms of the agreement, Eni will serve as the concession operator, and the consortium will be responsible for 100% of the exploration and development activities.  The partners intend to carry out 2D and 3D seismic surveys along with drilling activities throughout the first five-year exploration phase.

The official signing of the agreement is anticipated to take place in Tripoli by the end of February, with representatives from the National Oil Corporation and the consortium partners present.

Eni has been operating in Libya since 1959 and is now the main international energy company in the country, with a hydrocarbon production capacity of about 162,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025.

Another company that won the Libyan tender, Chevron Corp. from the United States, through its subsidiary Chevron Business Development EMEA Ltd., received a contract to develop the onshore Area 106 field, which is also situated in the Sirte Basin.  The company explains that the work is intended to be conducted under a production-sharing agreement.
