Battery maker Varta files for bankruptcy

The agency announced a day earlier that the struggling company intended to take this action after its shareholders—sports car manufacturer Porsche AG and Austrian investor Michael Tojner—declined to offer more funding.
Currently, Varta is confronted with a possible division. Major creditors, such as Deutsche Bank, aim to seize control of the firm's lucrative consumer battery segment, while Tojner has shown interest in its microbattery sector.

In the spring, Varta lost a major client: Apple revealed plans to obtain CoinPower rechargeable coin batteries for its AirPods headphones from China.
