At the same time, WHO is considering the possibility of introducing electronic certificates of vaccination against COVID-19 for foreign travel.

"We are carefully examining the possibility of using technology to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This also applies to cooperation with WHO Member States on the introduction of electronic vaccination certificates," Siddhartha Sankar Datta, an expert from the WHO Regional Office for Europe, told journalists.

Another WHO Regional Office for Europe expert, Catherine Smallwood, added that the organisation does not recommend testing for the virus at airports, apart from immunity passports.

"We recommend that countries look at data on virus transmission both in their own territory and abroad, and on this basis issue travel recommendations," she said.

Some countries have been considering the idea of introducing immunity passports almost since the beginning of the pandemic.
