Venezuelan authorities report opposition attack on military unit

A group of Venezuelan oppositionists attacked a military unit on the border with Brazil, at least one soldier died, Venezuelan defense minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez tweeted.

According to him, they seized part of the weapon, but the military returned it and detained several attackers, whom Lopez described as "opposition extremist sectors," and the incident called it a "terrorist attack."

The Minister of Defense of Venezuela added that the detainees were interrogated, and a chase was organized for those who managed to escape.

In Venezuela, the economic and political crisis continues, which resulted in protests. On January 23, President of the National Assembly and opposition leader Juan Guaidó proclaimed himself interim president of the country. He was supported by the United States, as well as the authorities of Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, USA, Canada, Argentina, Georgia; European reaction was also supportive. Mexico, Cuba, Bolivia, Russia and Turkey spoke in favor of President Nicolas Maduro. Russians called an attempt to usurp power unlawful and warned the United States against military intervention in Venezuela.
