The cargo includes 28 thousand sets of personal protective equipment for medical workers, oxygen concentrators, baby beds, water quality control equipment and hygiene kits, the organization said.

“This is the first United Nations humanitarian aid in support of Venezuela against the outbreak of COVID-19,” said Peter Grohmann, UN Resident Coordinator in Venezuela. The country is suffering from an economic crisis that has led to a shortage of basic foodstuffs and much more.

Earlier, UN Secretary General António Guterres called on G20 leaders to lift sanctions against a number of countries in the context of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. “I call for the lifting of sanctions from countries to ensure access to food, medical supplies and to support them in the fight against COVID-19. The time has come for solidarity, not isolation,” the UN Secretary General emphasized.
