According to Reuters, citing the US manufacturer, an extra five Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and six Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft will be provided. US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen verified the agreement, describing it as another advancement in mutually advantageous cooperation between the two countries.
In April, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a deal with Boeing for 14 aircraft (10 Dreamliners and four 737 MAX 8s) to be delivered between 2031 and 2035, with a total value of $3.7 billion. This increases the airline's overall order volume to 25 planes. The worth of the supplementary agreement has not been revealed yet.
The updated agreement is part of Dhaka's initiatives to boost imports from the US and address a trade deficit of around $6 billion. Bangladeshi officials seek to reduce the threat of increased US tariffs, which may harm the nation's export-driven economy—especially the textile sector—the agency highlights.
At the same time, Airbus, Boeing's competitor in Europe, is competing for contracts with Dhaka. A designated technical committee within the Bangladeshi government is presently evaluating a plan to buy 10 European aircraft.
