According to official Chinese media, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng stated that the U.S. and China “achieved a significant agreement.” He considered the discussions “candid, significant, and fruitful.”
The Chinese Vice Premier stated that Beijing and Washington “made significant progress in addressing differences via equal dialogue.”
Two sessions involving the U.S. and Chinese teams in trade negotiations took place in Switzerland over the weekend.
Previously, US President Donald Trump gave a favorable evaluation of the outcomes from the initial round of discussions. He stated that there was “significant advancement” and that the parties “cordially yet collaboratively” decided to renew their relations.
These marked the initial official in-person discussions between the two parties following Trump's implementation of 145% tariffs on China, to which Beijing retaliated with 125% tariffs on numerous American products and restrictions on rare earth element exports.
