The Trump administration has halted funding for specific infrastructure initiatives in New York City over worries regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), according to The Wall Street Journal.

Specifically, the funding for the Second Avenue subway line is being put on hold, as stated by Russell Vaught, head of the administration's Office of Management and Budget. Resources were similarly earmarked for building rail tunnels beneath the Hudson River.

Vaught states that nearly $18 billion has been locked.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is performing an administrative assessment of the two projects to ascertain their adherence to DEI policies. Funds will not be disbursed until the review is finalized.

The review had to be halted by the department because of the government shutdown that started on Wednesday.
