Short video sharing service TikTok announced a slew of services designed to help users struggling with mental health issues. The announcement followed immediately after The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) published about Facebook's impotence in overcoming Instagram's impact on teenage girls, CNBC reports.

Among the service's new options are wellness and support guides for those struggling with eating disorders. The search feature will direct users to support resources when they search for phrases containing possible requests for help. Another section provides users with information and support on bullying.

TikTok's announcement of the new features and guides follows a WSJ publication that Facebook has repeatedly found that its Instagram app can have harmful effects on the mental health of teenage girls in certain situations. Following the publication, U.S. lawmakers sharply criticized Facebook for the impact of social media on teen mental health and the company's failure to address these issues, CNBC noted.
