While Apple and Qualcomm are fighting for patents, the Chinese chip maker claims that all manufacturers of smartphones on the Android platform will be able to make flagship 5G devices already in 2019.

During 2019, every company that manufactures smartphones on the Android platform with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor will be able to bring to the market a flagship device supporting 5G networks, said president of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon.

"On the same day, a year later, we will see that every flagship of mobile phone manufacturers in the Android ecosystem will become a 5G device," he said at a conference in Qualcomm's Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii.

The day before, media reported that Apple did not plan to release a 5G smartphone until 2020. Apple's plans can partly be explained by the fact that until 2020, uniform standards for 5G networks will not be adopted. Besides, there is a trial going on between Apple and Qualcomm (the main supplier of chips for the iPhone). In this regard, Apple is now buying chips from Intel.

The first smartphones that will support the new generation network, will appear on the market in early 2019. In particular, the main competitor of Apple, Samsung, will release a mobile device that will support networks of Verizon, AT&T and other operators in the first half of the year.

The speed of 5G can give an advantage in the market to companies such as OnePlus, Mi and ZTE, Oppo, HTC, Google, LG, Motorola and many other. Cristiano Amon listed over 20 major companies working on Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, which in 2019 will be able to present advanced mobile devices.

However, representatives of Verizon, AT&T are not as optimistic as President of Qualcomm: in their opinion, penetration of the 5G network in 2019 will remain very low, and so will the number of smartphones actually working in this network.
