"The Mexican Attorney General's Office (FGR) has formally charged Emilio Lozoya Austin, former director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), in the Odebrecht case and requested a total of 39 years in prison for crimes related to criminal conspiracy, money laundering and bribery," Milenio wrote, citing sources in the federal government.

The state prosecution is asking for another 25 years in prison for Lozoya's mother Gilda Margarita Austin - also for criminal conspiracy and bribery.

Prosecution witnesses admitted paying bribes to politicians and officials from various countries, including Mexico. Odebrecht's alleged income from contracts obtained in Mexico amounted to $39 million. According to the prosecution, $4 million went to former president Enrique Peña Nieto's campaign and another $10.5 to Lozoya when he became a Pemex director.
