At a meeting on anti-epidemic measures, he "solemnly hailed victory in an extraordinarily emergency anti-epidemic battle to exterminate the novel coronavirus," reports Yonhap News of South Korea.

In late April, DPRK authorities announced the first coronavirus case. On May 15, the COVID-19 daily incidence rate peaked. Then, 392,000 instances were reported per day. The coronavirus, according to Kim Jong-un, was the biggest shock since the DPRK's inception.

Authorities in the DPRK announced on July 29 that there had been no new instances of the disease reported in the nation for the first time. Pyongyang relaxed practically all of the limitations placed earlier on July 2 and related to the omicron strain.
