The clergy stated that Mojtaba Khamenei has been selected and introduced as the third leader of the sacred system of the Islamic Republic of Iran, following the decisive vote by the esteemed members of the Assembly of Experts.

The Fars news agency had previously announced the name of Iran's new Supreme Leader.

Mojtaba Khamenei, who is 56 years old, is a cleric of moderate rank and is closely linked to the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He has been viewed for a long time by certain members of Iran's leadership as a possible future leader, following the death of his father, who was killed on February 28 in a military action involving the United States and Israel.
