French authorities have launched a criminal investigation into Elon Musk's social network X (formerly Twitter) on suspicion of manipulating its algorithm and illegally collecting data, the platform reported.

X firmly rejects the accusations and deems them “politically driven.”

“X stated that French regulators have sought access to its recommendation algorithm and operational data concerning all user posts on the platform, allowing multiple 'experts' to examine this information and purportedly 'uncover the truth' regarding the platform's functionality.”

The firm highlights that among these experts is David Chavalarias, the originator of the ‘Escape X’ movement, who advocates for a widespread rejection of the social network. His participation “raises significant concerns regarding the neutrality and fairness” of the inquiry, X stated.

The organization is still unaware of the exact allegations made against it. “Consequently, according to the information at hand, X asserts that the investigation misinterprets French law to further a political agenda and is ultimately intended to limit freedom of expression,” the statement reads.
