French Minister for Digital Technologies Cédric O said that the government discussed several options for implementing a program to reduce the negative environmental impact of manufacturers of electronic devices.

The idea of introducing an additional tax on the sale of new electronic devices was considered as one of the possible solutions.

Cédric O added that they decided to abandon this idea, since manufacturers can simply pass on additional costs to end users. Instead, the French government decided to support companies that remanufacture and sell used electronic devices.

It is planned that this program will be rolled out in January 2021 and about $ 25 million will be allocated for its implementation.
