According to the statement, Canada has openly disregarded WTO regulations by implementing steel quotas and biased tariffs on items made with Chinese steel. Xinhua reported that these measures are considered trade protectionism.

The restrictive actions not only infringe on China's rightful rights and interests but also disrupt the stability of global steel production and supply chains.

The ministry issued a statement indicating that China is "seriously dissatisfied with and strongly protests Canada's actions."

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce urged Canada to promptly rectify its incorrect actions, adhere to the rules-based multilateral trading framework, and foster the sustainable enhancement of economic and trade ties between China and Canada.
