Syria is ready to offer a pathway for exporting Iraqi oil that avoids the hazardous Strait of Hormuz, Yousef Kiblawi, head of the Syrian Petroleum Co., informed Bloomberg. He stated that an intergovernmental agreement is close to finalization, and the initial convoy of oil trucks might reach Syria by mid-October.

Iraq is currently moving a portion of its fuel oil by truck to the Syrian port of Baniyas on the Mediterranean for later transfer onto tankers, according to Bloomberg. Kiblawi mentioned that around 1,000 trucks deliver fuel oil every day, with each truck holding roughly 220 barrels.

"I believe there will be at least as many trucks transporting crude oil, if not more," he stated. Kiblawi mentioned that the Syrian Petroleum Co. intends to supply storage tanks for Iraqi oil in Baniyas.

The quantity of oil intended for truck transport throughout Syria would account for a tiny portion of Iraq's overall exports, which averaged 2.7 million barrels per day last month according to government data, Bloomberg observes.

Iraq's Oil Ministry and the state-owned oil marketing firm, SOMO, did not reply to Bloomberg's inquiries for comments.

Iran and Oman are preparing to inform a "competent international body" shortly about an agreement forged between the two countries concerning secure shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made this announcement, according to IRNA. He also stated that discussions between Tehran and Muscat were fruitful and that the parties had reached an agreement on the geographical coordinates of the corridors.
