"The European Commission is increasing its assistance to member states in combating unmanned aerial vehicles by providing an extra €130 million through the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI)," the EC announced in a press release.
The document states that this action is "part of EU initiatives to bolster border monitoring systems and increase the efficacy of reactions to new security challenges."
This additional funding enhances the earlier €250 million already announced, along with an extra €169 million allocated earlier this year for acquiring surveillance drones and associated gear for the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and member countries.
Brussels is convinced that "these resources will assist member states in boosting situational awareness, strengthening the security of external borders, and responding more efficiently to threats linked to the unauthorized or aggressive use of drones."
