The legislation came into force at midnight local time on December 10 and will impact most significant platforms, such as TikTok, YouTube, Meta, and X.

All current accounts of Australian children and teenagers must be removed by social media managers; social media platforms must also prevent the establishment of new accounts.

The Guardian reports that every platform except the last has shown their readiness to adhere to the law.

Noncompliance with the prohibition will lead to penalties of as much as $49.5 million.

Officials in Malaysia, Denmark, and Norway have revealed intentions to implement comparable bans, as has the EU, which has passed a resolution on related limitations.

The UK government stated it was "carefully observing Australia's stance on age limitations."
