Apple to expand applied research lab in China

Xinhua News Agency writes that Apple Inc. intends to build a new lab in Shenzhen and expand its applied research facility in Shanghai by 2024.

According to Isabel Ge Mahe, vice president and managing director of Apple for the region, these labs facilitate materials research and R&D while offering data to engineering and design teams globally.

She noted that the corporation established applied research laboratories in the PRC with an investment of 1 billion yuan ($140 million).

Apple has maintained a consistent level of investment and collaboration in China for over three decades. Of the 200 main suppliers to the corporation, 151 are based in the nation and operate manufacturing facilities.

Apple maintains research and development facilities in Shenzhen, Suzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai. The workforce at these Chinese locations has increased in the last five years.
