WSJ: Disney plans to cut about 1,000 jobs

Disney is planning major job cuts, which will be among the first important actions taken by the new CEO, Josh D'Amaro, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal referencing information from reliable sources.

In the upcoming weeks, the company intends to reduce up to 1,000 positions.  Most of the job cuts will impact the newly combined marketing department.  As the newspaper mentions, the plans for the upcoming cuts were already set in motion prior to Mr.  D'Amaro taking over the company.

Disney is having difficulty adapting to reduced income from streaming services compared to traditional television, along with falling revenue from movie theaters, and increasing competition from technology companies such as Amazon and YouTube.

Over 8,000 employees of the company have been let go Since Bob Iger, the former CEO, came back to the CEO position in 2022 and initiated a significant restructuring effort.
