"This is the third-biggest Ebola outbreak ever documented. Over the last month, it has propagated more quickly than any earlier epidemic," Ghebreyesus informed journalists in Geneva on Thursday.

"Currently, there have been 2,073 reported cases, with 796 fatalities." In contrast, the WHO director stated, as reported by Le Figaro, that it took over 10 months to exceed 2,000 confirmed cases during the 2018 Ebola outbreak in the DRC.

The report notes that the outbreak, the most lethal in the nation, caused almost 2,300 fatalities from 3,500 documented cases during the period from 2018 to 2020.
