According to the commission, more than 86% of car owners preferred that VW bought their cars, or terminated the lease ahead of schedule, without waiting for the defects to be corrected.

Volkswagen, after admitting fraud, promised to repair or purchase more than 550 thousand cars from the owners, notes Deutsche Welle.

In September 2015, the German automaker admitted that it had installed software to manipulate engine compliance tests.

In the United States, the company paid a total of $ 18 billion in fines and compensations due to the scandal.
