Fabian Garcia, President of the company's personal care division, wrote in a letter sent last week that macroeconomic and geopolitical realities, especially those related to the conflict in the Middle East, are expected to present several major challenges in the coming months.
The company stated to CNBC: "Due to the uncertain conditions in the external environment, we have chosen to temporarily halt our hiring activities. We are a flexible company and are always willing to adjust our plans as needed."
Unilever employs 96,000 people in 190 countries.
In 2024, the company stated its intention to lower annual costs by €800 million, which would be achieved in part by reducing the number of office employees by 7,500. The company has already cut costs by €670 million by the end of 2025, as shown in its most recent financial report, and intends to save the remaining €130 million this year.
