In France, the Energy Regulatory Commission revealed that state subsidies for renewable energy sources (RES) will increase by 23% in 2026, reaching an all-time high of €9 billion.

The notable rise in expenditures stems from the increasing adoption of solar, wind, and biogas energy throughout the nation. Simultaneously, France continues to obtain a considerable portion of its electricity from nuclear facilities.

The commission observed that the vigorous expansion of “clean energy” generation resulted in decreased emissions and aided in achieving a record electricity export in 2024 (by €5 billion).

Simultaneously, a substantial rise in production reliant on RES indirectly affects nuclear energy, as Electricite de France SA (the nuclear power plant operator) is increasingly compelled to lower output to prevent grid overload.

Solar and wind operators might be required to reduce output during excessively sunny or windy days when prices fall below freezing, although they receive significant compensation for these reductions.
