As per the sources of the publication, these modifications took place amid increasing worries that the government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán might be passing such information to Russia.

Previously, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk remarked that "it should never be surprising that Orbán's associates are keeping Moscow thoroughly updated on European Council meetings."

During the weekend, The Washington Post stated that officials in Orbán's administration are keeping in close touch with Moscow regarding the situation in Ukraine. Sources from the publication suggested that Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó reportedly updates Russia on matters during intermissions in discussions with other EU ministers.

Budapest, however, refuted this information. Hungary's Minister for European Union Affairs, János Bóka, stated that the reports were "false news" intended to sway the Hungarian elections.
