Greg Gianforte wrote, "I have banned TikTok to protect the personal data of Montana citizens from the Communist Party of China."

The document states that TikTok shouldn't be available in Montana as of January 1, 2024. It won't be made accessible for download in the state through app stores like Apple App and Google Play. Penalties for breaking the ban might reach $10,000 per day. Ordinary users will not be subject to penalties.

According to US authorities, TikTok might be used by China to gather data on Americans. A bill that forbade the use of TikTok on phones and other devices held by federal agencies was enacted by the US Congress in late 2022. The bill to outlaw TikTok in Montana was approved by the legislature in April.
