The first market for the smartphone will be Japan - the Leica Leitz Phone 1 will only be available from Softbank. The device, which will start taking pre-orders on June 18, will cost around $1,700.

The smartphone is built on Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 888 platform with 5G support. The 6.6-inch curved OLED display has a WUXGA+ resolution (2730x1260 dots) with a refresh rate of up to 240Hz. The screen incorporates a 12.6MP front-facing camera, while the main module includes a single 20.2MP camera with a 1-inch image sensor.

The Leitz Phone 1 has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory, which can be expanded with a microSD card up to 1TB. The device with a 5,000mAh battery is IP68 certified against dust and moisture. The smartphone runs on the Android 11 operating system with a proprietary shell.

Technically, the new Leica replicates the previously introduced Sharp Aquos R6 smartphone. The new Leitz Phone 1 differs from the Sharp model by its redesigned body, which is styled after Leica cameras, as well as the Leica branded hard case and camera lens cover, which are also made in the style of Leica cameras.
