"India is forecast to have its biggest power shortage in 14 years in June following a slump in hydroelectric power generation," the newspaper writes.

The agency's government source stated that additional delays in the launching of new coal-fired power plants, which was anticipated to happen by March, are also to blame for the imbalance.

India is to open twenty new coal mines by the end of this year, according to sources cited by PTI earlier. This will help the country meet its increasing energy demand while lowering its reliance on imported coal.
