Based on IBM's submission to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the resources will be allocated, among other purposes, for research and development, increasing production capacity, establishing new partnerships, and acquiring assets in the quantum sector.
The funding aims to enhance the firm's position in quantum computing.
IBM states that it has already installed over 90 quantum systems—surpassing all other competitors in the industry combined. Over 325 organizations, including companies, universities, and government entities, utilize IBM quantum computers to address scientific and technical challenges.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration revealed plans to distribute $2 billion in subsidies to nine firms engaged in quantum computing. Reportedly, IBM will receive half of these funds.
