"We are finalising production of a small number of pre-commercial vehicles and then plan to temporarily suspend production," a spokesperson for General Motors stated.

At the same time, no significant modifications in the company's strategy are expected, according to the publication. "We believe that unmanned vehicles will change transport around the world, and [our Origin robotaxis] are an important part of that effort," General Motors stated.

GM manufactures the Origin robotaxi at their Factory Zero plant in Michigan, which also produces the electric GMC Hummer EV and Chevy Silverado.

It was reported in late October that Cruise, General Motors' self-driving car subsidiary, had ceased the unmanned operation of its taxis across the United States. Prior to that, officials in California suspended Cruise's license to operate robotaxis due to an accident.
