The EC stated that it claims Chinese tires are being sold at an unjust price, which is damaging to European producers.
If the investigation determines that tire imports from China are being sold at predatory prices and are harming or could harm domestic producers, the commission may enact anti-dumping tariffs.
The EC aims to finish the investigation in 14 months and subsequently take action if required. The report stated that it could impose temporary anti-dumping duties on imports within the next eight months if initial findings suggest dumping is occurring.
At present, the EU has established anti-dumping measures for bus and truck tires brought in from China.
The estimated market volume for tires for cars and light trucks in the EU was over €18 billion in 2024.
