Equinor announces major oil discovery

Norwegian oil and gas group Equinor (formerly Statoil), together with partners PGNiG Upstream Norway and Longboat Energy Norway, has successfully drilled an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea, according to a company press release.

"Equinor, together with partners PGNiG Upstream Norway and Longboat Energy Norway, has discovered oil in exploration well 6407 / 1-9 - Egyptian Vulture," the statement said.

According to the report, preliminary estimates show that the field has between 3 and 10M cu.m. of oil equivalent, equating up to 62 mln barrels.

The well was drilled about 10 kilometres north of the Tyrihans field and 23 kilometres east of the Kristin field in the Norwegian Sea.

The Equinor oil and gas group was founded in 1972 and was called Statoil until May 2018. The company operates in more than 30 countries. The largest shareholder is Norway.
