Meng was released after striking a deal with US prosecutors the day before. She admitted concealing violations of sanctions against Iran in exchange for withdrawing her extradition request.

Meng Wanzhou, who is accused in the US of fraud related to breaching sanctions against Iran, was arrested in Canada at a US request in December 2018. She was later transferred to house arrest, with bail set at C$10 million, a commitment to wear a GPS bracelet and pay for her own security.
