The company said its products, containing a "vegetable substitute for ground beef," will be available in more than 3.3 thousand coffee houses across the country.

In total, there are over 4.3 thousand Starbucks Corp. coffee houses in China, writes The Wall Street Journal, citing a company representative. The country is the second largest market for the company.

Beyond Meat and its main US competitor, Impossible Foods Inc., are trying to gain a share of the Chinese market for veggie meat substitutes. Beyond Meat said it saw growing demand for more vegetable meat substitutes, and so the company intends to start production in China by the end of 2020.

The manufacturer has created a website in Chinese, and is also promoting its brand on Weibo and WeChat social networks to attract Chinese consumers.

Meanwhile, KFC's fast-food restaurant chain, operated by Yum China Holdings Inc., announced on Monday its plans to sell vegetable-based chicken substitute nuggets in several Chinese cities for several days in April.
