BMW sells record number of cars in January-March

German carmaker Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) sold around 637,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2021, up by a third from a year ago, the company said in a statement.

"BMW Group delivered 636,606 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles (+33.5%) to customers in the first three months of the year and achieved a new first quarter sales record," the statement said.

It was noted that the company increased sales from January to March on a year-on-year basis across all major regions. All brands of BMW Group demonstrated an increase in global sales during this period.

Thus, sales of BMW brand vehicles increased by 36.2% to 560.5 thousand vehicles. Sales of Mini increased by 16.2% to 74.68 thousand cars and Rolls-Royce increased 1.6 times to 1.38 thousand cars.

At the same time, sales of electric cars jumped 2.3-fold, to 70,200 units.

In the USA, sales rose 20.1% to 77,700 vehicles in the first quarter. In China, sales almost doubled to 229,700 vehicles in the first quarter. In Europe, sales rose 8.3 percent to 238,76 thousand BMW and MINI cars in the first three months. In Germany, BMW sales fell by 0.3 percent to 67.8 thousand cars.

BMW automobile concern produces BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce cars, motorbikes and engines. The company is headquartered in Munich.
