BP disclosed that the accord will be formalized during Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi's official trip to Washington and will signify the integration of expertise alongside BP's "methodical approach to capital distribution."

The contract for development and production includes the initial Stage of oil and gas extraction, amounting to more than 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent, from the Baba and Avanah fields within the Kirkuk oil dome, along with the nearby Bai Hassan, Jambur, and Khabbaz fields—all properties currently managed by the Northern Oil Company (NOC). The contract area encompasses further exploration possibilities as well.
After the transaction is finalized, BP will continue to be the majority stakeholder in BP ECKL and an important participant in the contractor group. BP ECKL is the contractor for the development and production agreement with Iraq's North Oil Company (NOC) and North Gas Company (NGC), focusing on the restoration and redevelopment of various significant oil fields in Kirkuk.

The deal, pending regulatory approval, does not alter the contract structure, the positions of NOC and NGC as existing operators, or the anticipated transfer of operating authority to a non-incorporated entity mainly consisting of NOC and NGC personnel.
