World Bank halt all funding to Niger

08/03/2023 - 03:30

Following the coup in Niger, the World Bank has declared the suspension of all operations with the exception of private sector initiatives.

“The Bank holds that a society free of poverty on a livable planet is built on the pillars of peace, stability, and the rule of law,” the organization commented.

“The attempts to topple Niger's democratically elected government worry us. In response, the World Bank has stopped making payments on all activities until further notice; however, cautious payments will still be made on private sector partnerships.”

The World Bank is closely watching the issue. The financial organization stated, “We are motivated by the desire to enhance the standard of living and empower the people of Niger.”
