"Today, I'm reporting that we've ordered 10 million courses of COVID-19 tablets from Pfizer. Our most essential strategy remains vaccination, but this new drug has the potential to drastically cut hospitalizations and fatalities, as well as speed up our recovery from the epidemic ", Mr. Biden said.

Deliveries will begin before the end of the year and will last until 2022. The Food and Medicine Administration (FDA) has not yet authorized the Pfizer drug, but officials want it approved as quickly as possible so that, if approved, residents may have it right away.

Pfizer revealed encouraging findings from a Paxlovid Phase 2 clinical study in adults at high risk of severe illness on November 5th. Paxlovid, according to the developer, helped cut the risk of COVID-19-related hospitalization or mortality by 89 percent.
