Taiwanese TSMC to open semiconductor production facility in Dresden

Dresden will become a manufacturing hub for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), reports the Handelsblatt daily referring to sources within the Federal Republic of Germany's government.

The final choice is anticipated to be decided during the TSMC Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday. According to the article, stakeholders are likely to prefer Dresden as a production site during the Board of Directors meeting because "all the formalities have been settled."

The German government is providing financing; it has reportedly offered to contribute €5 billion to the plant's construction, according to the newspaper's sources.

TSMC will run the facility in a joint venture with partners Bosch, Infineon, and NXP. Each partner is anticipated to own 10% of the joint enterprise.
