Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the animated series "South Park," have raised $20 million in funding for the development of their own deepfake visual effects studio, Deep Voodoo.

Parker and Stone's studio was primarily funded by Connect Ventures and the venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates (NEA). This is Deep Voodoo's first external capital raise. Parker and Stone's independent entertainment content company Park County had previously funded the start-up.

The creators intend to use the funds to "accelerate Deep Voodoo's specialist development of deepfake technology, cost-effective visual effects services, and original media projects," according to a statement. "We discovered this incredible technology and ended up hiring some of the world's best deepfake artists. We are thrilled to share their brilliance with the Hollywood creative community," Trey Parker and Matt Stone said in a joint statement.
