According to a business strategy unveiled on Monday, Nissan plans to invest 2 trillion yen (more than $17.5 billion) over the next five years on the development of electric and hybrid vehicles.

"We have a goal in mind: to make others to catch up with our company. We are creating a future for ourselves... Nissan's electrification is a step forward in terms of mobility", the concept states.

By 2026, the automaker wants electric cars, including hybrids, to account for 55% of sales in Japan and 75% of sales in Europe. Electric cars will account for half of the company's new vehicle sales globally by 2030.

By 2028, Nissan plans to release an electric vehicle with a next-generation solid-state battery.
