Microsoft invests $ 20M in AI to fight COVID-19

Microsoft is investing $ 20 million to fight the COVID-19 coronavirus as part of the AI for Health program, which aims to provide companies, non-profit organizations and healthcare scientists with access to artificial intelligence tools, cloud computing and other essential resources, the company said.

"The company decided to expand the program to help those who are currently seeking funds to deal with one of the most important problems of today, the coronavirus COVID-19," the report reads.

The company believes that technology can play a decisive role in many aspects related to the fight against COVID-19, from the analysis of virus distribution vectors to the determination of treatment effects.

The initiative will focus on 5 main areas: information to ensure the safety of people; conducting research to develop vaccines and methods for diagnosing and treating a disease; development of recommendations for the allocation of limited resources, such as hospital beds and medical equipment; the dissemination of reliable information to minimize the number of false news, as well as the support of scientific activities to allow better study of COVID-19.

On March 11, the World Health Organization announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 with a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 1.43 million cases of infection have been recorded in the world, more than 85.7 thousand people died.
