The Middle East is projected to be the primary area for global conventional refinery capacity increases, representing over a quarter of the overall total by 2030. This expansion is fueled by major projects, especially in Iran and Iraq.

Experts note that both nations are utilizing their extensive oil reserves to enhance refining facilities to satisfy increasing domestic demand, lower imports of refined goods, and bolster export potential.

Iran will lead in refinery expansions, representing 40% of the overall total. The nation intends to launch a total of 15 new and enhanced initiatives. The largest among them is Jask II, which has a declared capacity of 6,000 barrels daily. The project is now in the initial design phase and is anticipated to be initiated in 2028..
