Germany wants to increase domestic production of American-designed weapons

German officials aim to increase the manufacturing of US-designed armaments in German facilities, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

He pointed out that although there are claims regarding Europe's need for greater self-sufficiency in defense, no one plans to relinquish American weaponry. The minister stated that certain US weapons are not manufactured in Europe, yet will be necessary in the coming five to ten years.

In turn, Mark Rutte noted that the forthcoming summit in Ankara will address how the alliance's boosted defense spending can enhance its military capability and expand production capacity.

Rutte also mentioned that once the Ukrainian crisis concludes, Russia "will continue to be a long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security."

At the close of June, Nils Schmid, Parliamentary State Secretary in the German Ministry of Defense, indicated that Germany would need a more time to boost armament manufacturing.
